Abigail, Wojciech, and another one of her friends named Jay Sebring all went out to eat with her that evening. Jay was a hairstylist to big-name celebrities, and he used to date Sharon. After they broke up, they remained good friends.
It was approximately 10:30 in the evening when Sharon and her friends made it back to her Beverly Hills home on Cielo Drive.
They had only been home for a few hours when tragedy struck around midnight.

Not far from Sharon’s home, Charles Manson and his followers were living on Spahn Ranch in Los Angeles. The ranch served as a location for movie sets, as well as a popular horseback riding operation.
At 80-years-old, George Spahn, the owner of the ranch, was having a tough time keeping up with the place. He let Charles Manson and his followers live on his ranch rent-free, in exchange for working on the farm and helping him run the horse business.

Why did Charles Manson and his followers have an issue with Sharon? They didn’t, really. Sharon ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and here’s why.
Charles Manson’s real issue was with Terry Melcher, the friend of Sharon and Roman’s who lived in their home right before they started renting it.
Charles Manson was trying to make it big as a famous musician, but he never ended up getting very far on that dream. Charles had tried to get a recording contract with Terry, a well-known record producer.
He never ended up getting a contract, so Charles was furious. Charles felt Terry had insulted and humiliated him, and he was out for revenge.
And so, on the evening of August 8th, 1969, Charles instructed Tex Watson (a key member of his Manson Family) to take a few of their other members to the home of Terry on Cielo Drive.

Charles told his followers that he wanted them to gruesomely and brutally murder everyone they found inside of Terry’s home that night. Charles also instructed the woman that went along with Tex to listen to him about what they should do.
Sharon and her friends were complete strangers to Charles Manson, Tex Watson, and the rest of the followers: Linda Kasabian, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Susan Atkins.
That didn’t stop the Manson Family from exacting revenge on them, and ending their lives in such a bloody and terrifying manner.

Tex drove the family members to Sharon’s home. He knew exactly where it was, as he had driven there several times before to stake it out.
