19-year-old Vicky Murillo, a teen from Chicago, lost vision in one of her eyes after she and her friend were maliciously attacked with paintballs on Halloween night.
Adrean Murillo, Vicky’s brother, created a GoFundMe page to help with her increasing medical bills, which has since raised $6,421.
“My little sister and her friend were shot at with high-pressure paintball guns on Halloween night, which led them both to the hospital, with my little sister being admitted into the emergency room for surgery on her eye,” Adrean wrote.
“Her eye globe was ruptured from the impact and is unlikely to have her vision restored. We are only looking to cover some of the medical expenses and time off; my parents and I are having to take off work to stay at the hospital for an ongoing amount of days.”
“The shooter is still at large as I am working with detectives to find his residence. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers, and thank you to all who donate.”
On the night of October 31st, Vicky and her friend were dressed in pink outfits and drinking hot chocolates. They were walking along, minding their own business, when a car began following the two girls.
The people inside of the car began shooting at the girls with paintballs while recording the entire thing.
Speaking to CBS News, Adrean said that he thinks Vicky was hit twice on her body, and the one hit to her face hit her directly in the eye.
Adrean later found out that whoever did this to Vicky and her friend had done this before. That same exact car had been seen in the area attacking other people with paintballs in the days leading up to what happened to Vicky.
“It was malicious,” Adrean explained to CBS. “They knew what they were doing. I mean, they went out that day specifically for that reason.”
Then, a detective based in Cicero contacted Adrean, along with the police department over in North Riverside: the authorities were working cases from that same attacker.
Sadly, Vicky was the only person gravely injured in the attacks, and it’s seeming like her vision will not be restored in that eye, though only time will tell.
Adrean is hoping that whoever hurt Vicky will be found soon and charged to the fullest extent of the law.
