Have you ever wondered how the lottery came to be in Canada? Apparently, the first national lottery wasn’t established until 1974. In the country’s early years, lotteries were used to raise money for public projects like roads and bridges.
As Canada began to grow, gambling became an activity that most people frowned upon. So in 1875, the government banned gambling, but the ban was lifted a few years later.
Lotteries have come a long way since then. Nowadays, there’s the Lotto 6/49 and the Lotto Max for Canadians to participate in.
Everyone dreams of winning the lottery, but the odds of walking away with any money at all are extremely low. Only a fortunate few manage to accomplish this incredible feat.
Just the idea of waking up and automatically having six figures in their bank accounts is enough for some people to keep buying lottery tickets. It’s already the miracle of a lifetime when someone wins the lottery once but twice is almost unthinkable.
That’s why one lucky fellow was left in disbelief after striking it rich and defying all odds. A 68-year-old man from Milton, Ontario, won the lottery twice in one year, or thirteen months to be exact.
According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Antoine Beaini purchased a lottery ticket from a convenience store located on Milton’s main street. It was for the September 23 Lotto Max drawing.
To his great surprise, he discovered that he had yet again won the $734,203.60 lottery prize. The first time he won that amount was approximately thirteen months prior.
“I couldn’t believe it. I thought, ‘Again?’ It was more shocking than the first win. I told my wife, and she was very happy!” said Antoine.
Antoine planned to use the money to help out his family.
“I want to make sure the next generation of my family is set up comfortably,” he said.
What would you do if you hit the jackpot?
